Charles Stewart Rolls and Fredrik Henry Royce formed the automobile company, Rolls-Royce in 1906. In the inception year, the company introduced its six-cylinder, the Silver Ghost. From the beginning itself, Rolls-Royce came as the most appreciable and trusted marque. This is the reason that its first launched product, the Silver Ghost was entitled as "The best car in the world".
Due to the increasing demands, the company opened a new manufacturing facility in the 1920s, at the shores of Springfield, Massachusetts. This factory was open for 10 years. In the same decade Rolls-Royce Phantom I was launched which was powered by the unique pushrod-operated overhead valve engine equipped with detachable cylinder heads which was the most innovative features of its time. The company acquired another prominent brand in its kitty, the Bentley in 1931.
In the 1940s Rolls-Royce opened a crewe factory, due to arising World War II. After the World II, the company rolled out its first car model, the Silver Wraith. In 1950, Rolls-Royce once again brought a big sensation, the Phantom IV, which was powered by a vibrant eight-cylinder engine. It also had an excellent control on road as the cruise and road grip of this car was excellent. This car represented the status of the royal families therefore, only 18 prototypes of this model were made and all of them were sold to the prominent royal heads of different states.
In 1950s, Rolls-Royce launched two models, Silver Cloud I and Silver Cloud II, which stunned the enthusiasts with its eye-catching looks and phenomenal interiors. In 1960s too the season of premium saloon introductions continued from this British automobile manufacturer as it brought in many prominent cars of the decade namely; the Silver Cloud III, Silver Shadow and Phantom VI.
During the 50s, the company was trapped in the financial crisis which led to its bankruptcy and ultimately the control of this auto-major came in the hands of British government. The brand continued under the supervision of British government till 1980 when the brand came in the hands of Vickers. In 1981, Rolls-Royce launched the Silver Spirit which was unique from, the prevailing all premium saloon brands of its time.
The change of ownership continued with the beginning of new decade as well, when the brand was sold to the German car maker, BMW but eventually, Volkswagen, another leading German car maker purchased BMW. Therefore, the ownership of this British Brand came in the hands of Volkswagen with effect from January 1, 2003.
In India, Rolls-Royce has been ruling the hearts for more than 70 years, when the Maharajas and Royal families used to import Rolls-Royce from England. The company has two outlets in India i.e. one in the national capital, New Delhi and the second one in the city of stars, Mumbai. The company caters two models; Rolls-Royce Ghost and Rolls-Royce Phantom.
Today, Rolls-Royce stands as one of the most distinctive brands, possessing high class technical supremacy under the leadership of Volkswagen and bestowing its pride owner an excellent ride experience and we hope that in the coming years we will have some more luxury cars to talk about.
