In the upcoming couple of years, Japan was grabbed with arising World War II which forced, Mitsubishi to manufacture ships and vehicles for war purposes. Things became better in 1960s for Mitsubishi when it launched 500, a passenger car which was a highly appreciated. In the same decade, the company also introduced other passenger cars like 360 Van and 360 Pick Up, which rose the sales of this auto-unit. Mitsubishi also showed its dominance on race tracks as well, by bagging many title on the Japan Grand Prix.
In 1970, Mitsubishi automobile was transformed as Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. In 1971, the company made its debut on American shores by introducing Mitsubishi Colt. During the same year, Chrysler bought 15 of stake in Mitsubishi; therefore Mitsubishi models were sold in the name of Dodge brand. 70s brought boom in car production as the company started producing more than 1 million cars per year. Mitsubishi got a good hold on the auto-market with its new introductions like, the Galant and Lancer. In 1982, Misubishi began to sell cars in United States on its own name.
1990s also brought wave of sales for the auto-major which was mainly due to its two new introductions i.e.; the Eclipse and 3000 GT. Another big sensation was turbocharged lancer Evolution which was one of the most vibrant sedans of its time. In 2000, Mitsubishi shook hands with Daimler for further expansion of its products. Today, Mitsubishi's have become the most reliable SUVs across the globe thereby facilitating the buyers with a long line up of SUVs and passenger cars. On Indian shores, Mitsubishi came in a joint venture with Hindustan Motors in 1998. Mitsubishi cars are assembled in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu. It has seven models available for sale in the domestic market, which are; Mitsubishi Lancer, Mitsubishi Cedia, Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, Mitsubishi Pajero, Mitsubishi Montero and Mitsubishi Outlander. It is speculated that Mitsubishi will launch another SUV, Mitsubishi Outlander by the end of this year.
