Ford Endeavour – Sturdy Crossover (Expert Review)

The world’s most renowned car maker, Ford stormed in to the Indian auto market with its sensational revolutionary Endeavour in 2005. The mid-sized SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) was a perfect combination of robust styling and rugged looks which was an instant hit in the country. The American car giant is leaving no stone unturned to sneak in to the cut throat competition in every segment but the company hasn’t has much success till now except for Ford Endeavour and Ford Figo which are a massive success.

The all new Ford Endeavour carries the world class styling along with complementing interiors and powerful engine which drives the off roader over steepest and rough roads without much effort. The fabulous Ford Endeavour turns the heads around in astonishment when it takes on the surface. The crossover gives exceptional performance with its mind blowing speed and classic stability. The all new Ford Endeavour was given a facelift when its new variant was unveiled in 2009. The new version is imparted with 3.0L with 5-speed automatic transmission and an array of contemporary features that give Endeavour a fresh appeal.

The Ford monster is competing head on with Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet Captiva, Mitsubishi Pajero, Mitsubishi Outlander and Honda CR-V.

Engine and Specifications

The off roader is available in 3 variants: Endeavour 3.0L 4X4 AT, Endeavour 3.0L 4X2 AT and Endeavour 2.5L 4X2 AT. The 3.0 Litre TDCi with Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) gives maximum power of 156 PS at 3200 rpm along with offering peak torque of 380 Nm at 2500 rpm. The engine is mated with 5 speed automatic transmission.

While the 2.5 Litre TDCi with Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) is capable of generating extreme power of 143 PS at 3500 rpm and ultimate torque of 330 Nm at 1800 rpm. This engine is mated with 5-speed manual transmission.

Extreme

The sturdy Endeavour is bestowed with attractive exteriors with large aggressive chromed front grille. Styling is simply at its best in the new Ford Endeavour with distinct clear headlamps in rectangular fashion. The vibrant body is poised with robust designing along with icing on the cake being the roof rails which add to the sportiness of the vehicle. The rear end is also build with same care as the front one; the tail lamps are mounted high with spare tyre neatly covered with beautiful cover. 16 inch alloy wheels and finishing chrome work raises the appeal of the new Ford Endeavour.

Interior

The brawny vehicle gets plush interiors which offer ample of comfort and space. The powerful AC cools the ambience with in no time. Ford Endeavour offers impressive and elegant dual tone interiors with dual tone ebony dashboard. The rugged SUV is luxurious with amusing wholesome entertainment supplied from the audio system. Illuminated scuff plates, titanium finish on IP and dual sunglass holders add to the list of features inside the sturdy crossover.

Comfort and Convenience

The all new Ford Endeavour is embraced with high class comfort and an array of convenient features. These comprise of independent control for rear AC, personalised AC vents for 2nd & 3rd row seats, tilt adjustable steering, power windows (one touch down for driver), electric adjustable outside mirrors, rear defogger, height adjustable driver and co-driver seat belts, front centre armrest with storage bin, remote fuel cap release, removable ashtray, clutch foot rest, etc.

Performance

The powerful diesel engine generates enough power to make Ford Endeavour a high performing machine and most importantly on all terrains. The vehicle sprints from 0 to 100 kmph in mere 15.2 seconds with a top speed of 166 kmph. The superb suspension system along with exceptional handling and braking add to its scintillating performance.

Safety

Safety comes first when it comes to Ford and this Endeavour is also blessed with good amount of safety features. These consist of door intrusion side beams, collapsible steering column, dual stage driver and front passenger airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), seatbelt pretensioners & load limiter, fog lamps, engine immobiliser, anti-theft alarm, etc.

Mileage

The all new Ford Endeavour delivers an impressive fuel economy of 8.5 kmpl in city and 12.5 on highways.

Price

The crossover is tagged aggressively at Rs 16.94 lakh – Rs 19.50 lakh depending on its variants (ex-showroom New Delhi).

Drawbacks

The mighty Endeavour has some drawbacks. These include its performance on highway cruising which is not up to the mark. The vehicle is available only in diesel option and that the SUV offers poor mileage. The high maintenance costs are another issue associated with this off roader. Huge size could create problem in traffic while parking sensors are of immense help while parking the car.
