Ford Classic – Distances are a Thing of Past (Expert Review)

Ford India launched their all new Ford Classic Titanium variant on 16th July, 2012. Shakespeare said what’s in a name but Ford thought otherwise and shredded the Fiesta badge from its entry level sedan Ford Classic to make it more appealing. Riding high on the massive success of Ford Figo, Ford needed some fire from its sedans as well to maintain its bettering brand image. The launching of the new top end variant of Ford Classic and its renaming is a step in positive direction which is speculated to bring in desirable results.

The all new Ford Classic Titanium is a refresher variant and is offered in both petrol and diesel trims. Ford Classic’s mileage has become talk of the town and why not as the figures of 32.38 kmpl are extraordinary and the best known till date. A range of new features are also installed in the top model inspite of its rates slashed by Rs 70,000! Ford Classic now boasts of new added features like dual tone beige black interiors, speed sensing audio control, programmable key, Bluetooth and ipod connectivity, stylish new alloy wheels and many more.

Fabulous Ford Classic will be competing with the likes of Maruti Swift Dzire, Skoda Rapid, Nissan Sunny, Volkswagen Vento, Honda City and Hyundai Verna.

Engine, Specification & Performance:-

Ford Classic is available in both petrol & diesel variants. The 1.6L 4-Cylinder 16 Valve DOHC Duratec petrol engine belts out top power of 101 bhp at 6500 rpm and peak torque of 146 Nm at 3400 rpm whereas the 1.4L 4-Cylinder 8 Valve SOHC Duratorq diesel motor churns out max power of 68 PS at 4000 rpm and generates max torque of 160 Nm at 2000 rpm. Both the engines are mated to five speed manual transmission.

Enhancing the comfort and supplying the balance to Classic are the independent Mcpherson struts with offset coil spring for the front suspension while semi-independent heavy duty twist beam with twin tube dampers for the rear one. The new Ford Classic petrol sprints from 0-100 kmph in mere 11.43 seconds with a top speed of 170 kmph and the diesel Classic covers the same slot in 12.8 seconds with speed limit of 165 kmph.

Exteriors:-


Ford Classic was always admired for its sober & distinct looks and new changes have just made it better. Crystal barrel headlamps with chrome surrounding, body colored side mirrors, bumpers and tail gate handle present the Classic with the pure classic looks. Radiator grill with chrome linings and smart fog lamps enhance the style statement of the vehicle. On top of it new aggressive styled alloy wheels add a dash of sportiness to Ford’s Classic.

Interiors:-


Equally adorable Ford Classic interiors are given a regal touch. Exquisite beige black upholstery theme enchants the machine with luxurious feel and coupled with high level of comfort and brilliant craftsmanship, Classic cabin has become more enticing. Fit and finish of the cabin material is excellent with liquid metal finish on central console. American automaker has bestowed this three box vehicle with plenty of high tech features in the Titanium variant.

Comfort and Convenience:-


Ford Classic is packed with plenty of comfort and convenience features which consist of AC with electric Re-circulation & heater, Power steering with Tilt adjustment, Power windows, Electric boot release, Intelligent rear defogger, Rear center armrest, Adjustable rear head rests, Power ORVMs, Speed sensing volume control, Drive away lock, 2L bottle holder in front door panel, MP3 player with Audio and Radio, Bluetooth interface, Height adjustable driver’s seat, Completely foldable rear seats, 4 speakers and many more.

Safety:-

Ford is one of the pioneers of four wheeled vehicles and thus knows safety better than anybody else. Its Classic is fitted with good amount of active and passive protective gadgets which include Collapsible steering column, Central locking, Dual rear & front fog lamps, Fuel cut-off switch, PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System), Programmable keyless entry, Auto re-locking, ABS with EBD and 2 Airbags.

Mileage:-

Fabulous Ford Classic petrol delivers fuel efficiency of 21.27 kmpl while the diesel motor returns with the mileage figures of 32.38 kmpl.

Price:-

Ford Classic is shelved in the price slot of Rs 5.53 lakh – Rs 7.90 lakh (Ex-showroom New Delhi).

Drawbacks:-

Styling of Ford Classic is a downside now which has started to show its age and badly needs refinement. Maintenance cost of Classic is slightly more compared to rivals.
