BMW X5 – Xtreme Machine (Expert Review)

The German automaker, BMW unveiled its thrilling X5 in the country in the year 2006. The intelligent company launched its refreshed crossover in 2010. The BMW X5 is a 5-door Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV). The new Bavarian beauty is an epitome of aggression with kidney shaped grille and clear powerful headlamps. BMW is going head on with Mercedes to gain the top ranking in the world’s second largest auto market after China. But, now the rivalry is getting fiercer with global players like Audi, Aston Martin entering the league.

The all new BMW X5 comes with contemporary and distinct appearance coupled with spacious and cosy interiors. The best-in-class cabin offers five star comfort with ample of convenience and safety features which assure you of delightful and safe journey. The high-performing engine of BMW X5 embraces enough power in the brawny car to outclass every hurdle it encounters. The four wheel drive vehicle leaves the onlookers stunned with its sensational sculpted designing and muscular body. Engine and Specifications

The all new BMW X5 is available in 3.0 litre, 2993cc, 6 cylinder, in-line diesel engine and 4395cc, BMW TwinPower Turbo V8 petrol engine. The diesel engine offers an impressive power of 245 bhp at 4000 rpm and belts out ultimate torque of 540 Nm at 1750-3000 rpm. While the petrol engine delivers maximum power of 407 bhp at 5500-6400 rpm and peak torque of 600 Nm at 1750-4500 rpm.

Both the engines are mated to a Steptronic 8 speed automatic gearbox.

Exterior

BMW X5 displays bold character with distinct tough body. The terrific vehicle instinctively draws gazes wherever it goes. Its long wheelbase, short overhangs and powerful contours express its elegantly sporting nature. Prominent lines and carved edges are testament to the BMW X5′s unmistakable presence and elegance. The muscular, sculpted bonnet is a clear indication of the power that lies beneath while the dynamically contoured sides and L-shape rear lights with LED technology underscore the vehicle’s elegance. Interior

The optional and innovative Head-Up Display shows relevant information, for example current speed, directly in the driver’s field of vision. Comfort and Convenience

The breathtaking BMW X5 carries a host of comfort and convenient features. These comprise of power outside mirrors, intermittent rain-sensing windshield wipers, rear window wiper/washer, roof rails, power windows, power door locks, and vehicle and key memory are kept standard on both the variants. Optional panoramic moon-roof is available in 3.0d variant with two-piece glass panels, power slide and lift control, wind deflector, and an electric interior sunshade. Power adjustable seats, adjustable upper backrest segment, adjustable backrest width and lumbar support all add to the comfort features list of BMW X5. Entertainment features include anti-theft AM/FM stereo CD radio with Radio Data System, MP3 capability and a 3-channel FM diversity antenna system. Dynamic cruise control, front and rear park distance control, automatic front climate control, automatic air-conditioning, and recirculation control also make up for a huge list of convenient features.

Performance

When it’s BMW, it got to be a high performer. BMW X5 has got enough power to tear apart the toughest terrains. Hill Descent Control automatically slows down the speed when coming downhill without the driver applying brakes. The SUV sprints from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.5 seconds. The smooth shifting of gears further enhances its performance with increased fuel efficiency.

Mileage

The crossover gives a decent mileage of 5.8 kmpl in city and 10.4 kmpl on highways for petrol variant while diesel variant gives impressive fuel economy of 8.8 kmpl in city and 13.9 kmpl on highways.

Price

The mean machine is tagged in the price bracket of Rs 54.09 lakh – Rs 69.50 lakh depending on variants (ex-showroom New Delhi).

Drawbacks

In spite of good show from BMW X5, the vehicle has its downside. Manual transmission could have made driving more pleasurable one. Cargo capacity is not that great in the X5 which are usually provided in SUV’s. Third row seats are almost absent. The high pricing will affect the overall sales of the crossover.
