BMW Mini Cooper – An expensive encounter (Expert Review)

BMW, the German luxury marque, launched its awaited car Mini Cooper in the Indian auto market by introducing the vehicle on 5th January at the 2012 New Delhi Auto Expo. Mini is a common name in the United Kingdom but for Indians, it’s a new term that needs time to become familiar with. But coupled with BMW, the Mini Cooper is sure to spur sales for the company. BMW’s decision to separately launch Mini Cooper and with dedicated Mini outlets in the country, the vehicle is certain to gain popularity and help the parent company to sustain at the top spot of luxury market.

The all new BMW Mini Cooper is compactly designed with comfortable interiors and powerful engine. Being showcased in the Bollywood’s latest flick ‘Players’, the small car hopes to make its mark on the Indian roads. The trendy looks of the vehicle with a retro touch just makes it perfect for any car enthusiast to lure for it. The majestic color combination of the vehicle creates enough attraction to grab the attention of the most oblivious person on the road.

The mesmerizing BMW Mini Cooper will be locking horns with the Volkswagen Beetle and Fiat 500.

Engine, Specification & Performance:-

Under the small hood of Mini Cooper hatchback rests 1.6 litre motor belting out 98 bhp of maximum power and goes up to 184 bhp in the S variant while the diesel version is imparted with 1.6 litre engine yielding out 90 bhp of top power which goes up to 143 bhp in SD variant.

The new Mini Cooper sprints from 0-100 kmph in 9.1 seconds while the sports version races from 0-100 kmph in 7.0 seconds. Power is awesome, even at low speeds Mini Cooper never lets you down.

Exterior:-

Compactly designed, Mini Cooper is a mixture of retro and contemporary styling. Round chromed head lamps and chromed front grille with couple of broad lines painted on the bonnet accentuate the stunning beauty of the Mini. However, the lines are available as an option. If the front was good, the side profile is better with the impressive alloy wheels which are undoubtedly the most adorable part of magnificent Mini Cooper. Rear bumper integrated reversing lights & fog lights and the added chrome on tail lights is another pleasing feature of the Mini Cooper.

Interiors:-

Step in the Mini and the curvy theme travels inside as well with seats displaying rounded edges and two tone colors. Ergonomically designed seats makes Mini Cooper appear like a sports car. The whole of the interiors ambience is dual toned and looks ecstatic to watch and comfortable to seat. Numerous options for colors in cloth & leather upholstery are offered by the company. With an ability to seat 4 passengers comfortably, BMW Mini Cooper has got enough in its armory to draw the buyers.

The all new Mini Cooper is flooded with features comprising of Chrome Lined Grills, Active Retractable Rear Spoiler, Polished Exhaust Tip, Wide Opening Front Doors, Aerodynamic Helmet Roof Design, 6-way Adjustable Seats with Height Adjustment also, Height Adjustable Headrests and Seat Back Easy-Entry Feature. A car with a tag of BMW has to be on a safer side, BMW Mini Cooper is also embedded with generous protective gadgets. These embrace Alert Ergonomic Driving Position, Rigid Body, 4-wheel Anti-Lock Braking System, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Cornering Brake Control, Dynamic Stability Control and many more.

Mileage:-

Charismatic Mini Cooper delivers 5.4 kmpl while 5.8 kmpl of fuel efficiency is registered by the Mini Cooper S.

Price:-

The exotic Mini Cooper falls in the price bracket of Rs 24.9 lakhs and goes up to Rs 31.99 lakhs (Ex-showroom New Delhi).

Drawbacks:-

Though BMW Mini Cooper is a stylish hatch, it does have its shortcomings. The car is steeply priced. And in the country driven by mileage, Mini Cooper fails to take that extra mile.
