Volvo Aims 15% in Indian luxury Auto Market By 2020

Volvo Auto India Pvt. Ltd, the local unit of Swedish luxury automaker Volvo is all geared up to enhance its presence in the country by capturing 15% of the Indian luxury car market by 2020. Volvo Auto India is focusing to explore domestic auto industry with few new launches with an aim to attain its set targets, as exclaimed by the managing director of the company, Mr. Tomas Ernberg.

This year Volvo Auto India plans to sell more than 1,000 units in the country as compared to its last year’s sales count of 320 units.

Yesterday Volvo unveiled its brand new showroom in Chennai, India. And at the launch event of the same, Mr. Ernberg commented, “The Indian luxury auto market is rapidly flourishing and it will raise to 1,50,000 units by year 2020. And we at Volvo aim to achieve 20,000 units out of it.”

Currently, the company holds 1% market share of the Indian luxury car segment and the same is likely to increase to 3% by 2020. Volvo Auto India is speedily planning to expand its arms in the country from present eight dealerships to around sixteen in coming eighteen months.

In 2012, Volvo introduced three new diesel options of its existing range – S60, S80 and SUV-XC60. Moreover as the demand for diesel cars is progressing, Volvo sold almost 95% of the units of its diesel versions in India as against to petrol counterparts. The company will soon launch new products in India by the beginning of next year.
