Volkswagen Vento lefts behind Honda City in mid-size sedan sales race

Volkswagen Vento,the German auto-major,Volkswagen’s entry level sedan in India has left behind one the most prominent mid-sized sedan , Honda City in sales statistics. In a short time span of eight months, Volkswagen Vento has beaten Honda City who has been dominating the compact sedan market for more than a decade.

In past two months, March and April, Vento’s sales marked a record of 6,839 units whereas the stats for Honda City was only 4,315 units for the same period. Partho Gosh, head of security systems at an IT company in Kolkata, drove Honda City and Volkswagen, but in the end he was fleet on Volkswagen Vento. Gosh said that Volkswagen Vento is a poor man’s Mercedes. Moreover, he added that its low price tag range of Rs. 6.99 lakhs in West Bengal and its powerful German engineering has made him crazy for this car.

Another reason for the rise of Vento sales can be its diesel engine’s superb fuel efficiency. Blessed with unique German engineering and diesel variants line up, eventually brought the rise in Vento sales, however, Honda City is available only in petrol variants  which has really been a major set back for them in the past two months.

This benchmark has made Vento one of the car largest sold cars from the German auto-major, Volkswagen. At present Volkswagen Motors in on Indian shores with four car segments, i.e. the Polo which is ruling the hatchback empire, the Vento which is head to head with Honda City, the Jetta which is gives a stiff competition to cars like Toyota Corolla Altis and Volkswagen Passat leading the premium segment.
