Toyota Plans to Ship 20K Units of Etios Range To South Africa In 2012

Toyota’s South African unit, Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) is all ready to launch the two very popular and major cars from the Etios range, the sedan Etios and hatchback Liva on 21st May 2012. And the Indian unit of the Japanese auto giant is planning to ship 20K units of Etios range to the country in this year. Toyota already exported the first shipment of 247 units earlier this month.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is betting big on exports to South Africa and hopes to enhance the export volume of Etios range to more than 20,000 units in year 2012. As of now the company has a set target of shipping around 1,700 units per month out of India.

According to Calvyn Hamman, the Senior VP – Sales & Marketing of TSAM, the new Etios range will surely strengthen Toyota’s brand image in the country and will make its entry-level segment stronger. This will fill the gap especially after the end of the Tazz more than five years ago and Volkswagen picking up the opportunity of being regarded as the passenger car market leader in South Africa.

Hamman remarked, “The Etios range will complete our entry-level line-up in South Africa and will be sold alongside A and B segment offerings in the form of the Aygo and Yaris. And we believe that the Etios range along with its space, value for money and specifications will surely become a hit in the sub-B segment.”
