Nissan India To Launch Sedan Version Of Micra Next Year

The Indian subsidiary of Japan based leading car maker Nissan Motors is planning to launch a sedan version of its latest compact hatchback Nissan Micra, in the Indian market. It has been widely speculated that the new sedan version of Micra will be launch as Nissan Sunny. However, there is no confirmation from the company’s side on this regard, so far.

As per a recent statement given by Mr. Manoj Kumar, VP Operations, Hover Automotive India Pvt. Ltd. (a strategic partner of Nissan India), “We are still working on what name to give it, but we will be launching both the petrol as well as the diesel variant soon.”

While further elaborating the specifications of this prospective sedan, Mr. Kumar added, “We have the technology in place now but it is too soon to reveal the configurations of the engines.” It is expected that Micra sedan will be sporting a refined version of the same 1.4L Logan engine of its global partner Renault.

The new Micra sedan will be marking Nissan’s entry into the highly competitive entry-level sedan segment, where the car will be fighting for space with the likes of Honda City, Fiat Linea, Maruti SX4, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and recently launched Toyota Etios. The new sedan will be manufactured at Nissan-Renault’s joint venture plant at Chennai.

Nissan India has been receiving an overwhelming response for both petrol and diesel versions of its compact hatchback Nissan Micra in the Indian market. So far, the company has managed to sell more than 8,000 units of Micra series of cars in the country. On Thursday, Nissan launched Micra diesel in the state of Kerala where over 250 units of this car have already been booked. The Micra hatchback is currently taking on with the likes of Maruti Swift, Ford Figo, Volkswagen Polo and Fiat Grande Punto.
