Maruti Suzuki Swift sedan to be unveiled in February next year

Maruti Suzuki India has been working desperately to launch a three box sedan of its popular car Swift by February next year. The plan is to build a sedan within the 3.99 meter to fully exploit the excise duty of government. Using the same platform of Swift, company wants to maximize its returns and manufacturing Swift with an added boot will provide Maruti another chance to lure car enthusiasts.

Though Dzire is already in the market and is doing excellent business, company plans to introduce Swift 3.99 alongside Dzire but this model will cost Rs 50,000 less than its elder brother. According to sources, the trial period has already begun and the car is speculated to be showcased in February.

An industry expert said that the Dzire sales are so strong that taking it out of the market makes no sense. With the addition of third body style after Swift and Dzire, it will definitely boost huge volumes and that too, without much investment. Maruti will be further benefitted with the poor growth rate of auto market and with other companies delaying capacity expansion, he added.

The cheapest sedan would be produced at Manesar plant with the facility going under development and the production capacity will be increased to roll out 2,100 units per day.

Every carmaker wants to take advantage of the lucrative excise duty policy of the country in which below 4 meter length vehicles will imply 10 per cent while above 4 meters carries 22 per cent of excise duty as per the duty slab for passenger vehicle announced in 2008-09 budget.
