Diesel version of Toyota Etios and Liva storms the Indian auto market

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) introduced the diesel variants of its entry-level sedan Etios and hatchback Etios Liva on Friday, tagged in the price bracket of Rs 5.54 lakh to Rs 7.87 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi).

The tremendous response for Etios sedan and Liva hatchback from this part of the world has put a big smile on the face of Japanese company and thus company has decided to manufacture diesel variants for a bigger appeal. For this year, a plan to sell 63,000 units of cars in the country has been decided.

“Etios has been received well by our customers in the petrol segment. We are now offering the diesel variant to cater to a wider customer choice,” TKM Managing Director Hiroshi Nakagawa said in a press meeting.

The sedan and the compact car will be fitted with a 1.4 liter diesel engine and speculated to yield 23.59 kmpl of mileage, as per company claims.

Etios Liva diesel is priced between Rs 5.54 lakh and Rs 5.89 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) while Etios sedan diesel falls in the price range of Rs 6.44 lakh and Rs 7.87 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Liva costs Rs 95,000 more than its petrol counterpart whereas for buying Etios diesel you need to pay Rs 90,000 more.

Nakagawa said that the engines will be imported from Japan and TKM has no future plans to produce them in India. The Japanese carmaker has also planned to increase its dealership network from the current 163 to 175 in the country to tackle the pouring sales.
