Toyota Motors set the stage on fire when it unleashed the revamped version of its Fortuner on 5th January 2012 at the New Delhi Auto Expo. The mighty vehicle has been the favorite of the Indian car enthusiasts and the sales figures reflect it. The new variant of the fiery Fortuner is speculated to be more phenomenal and powerful than its predecessor. On the other hand, all time favorite Mitsubishi Pajero Sport has been a tremendous vehicle which has won several rallies and achieved the title of a true sports utility vehicle with its sheer performance. Pajero Sport is speculated to be unleashed in India by mid 2012. Let’s have a look on both these brawny machines and try to figure out which is the best.

Exteriors:-

The new facelifted Toyota Fortuner now looks more adorable and the aggressive snout is retained for the added sportiness. Heavily chromed front radiator grill, new rear bumper, Stylish flare fenders, new fog lamps, sporty roof rails, ‘Fortuner’ engraved chrome slat above the rear number plate and 12 spoke 17 inch alloy wheels all contribute to the daring attitude of the fiery Fortuner.

Contrarily, legendary Mitsubishi Pajero Sport carries the old charm with dual toned body color and broad structure. Engine, Specifications & Performance:-

Beneath the sophisticated hood of Toyota Fortuner, roars a 3.0L, 2982cc, common rail diesel engine capable of churning out top power of 168 bhp at 3600 rpm and peak torque of 343 Nm at 1400-3400 rpm. Available with only 4WD as an option earlier, the auto maker now offers 2WD facility as well with one of these powertrains linked to 4 speed automatic transmission.

The powerful Fortuner accelerates from 0-100 kmph mark in just 14.5 seconds.

On the other hand, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is packed with 2477cc petrol engine belting out 135 bhp at 3500 rpm along with generating peak torque of 314 Nm at 200 rpm. A four speed automatic transmission is mated to the engine.

Tempting Toyota facelifted Fortuner is endowed with a  number of features comprising of Power Windows with Driver-side Auto Up-down, Keyless Entry, Rear Camera with Display, Power Door Lock, Cruise Control (in AT variant) and Cigarette Lighter with Illumination. For music freaks, 2 DIN Display Audio with LCD Touch-screen, DVD, Bluetooth, USB, Aux-in & 6 speakers, etc.

While the tried and tested Mitsubishi Pajero Sport also boasts an array of features like Power steering with tilt & adjustable column, Impact beams, Front SRS airbags, Anti-trapping Power windows, Anti-lock Braking System with EBD and Brake Assist, Cruise Control, Anti-theft alarm, Parking sensors with rear view camera, etc.

Mileage:-

Toyota SUV delivers an impressive mileage of 7 kmpl in city and 11 kmpl on highways whereas its rival Mitsubishi Pajero Sport returns with a fuel efficiency of 7 kmpl in city conditions and 10 kmpl on highways.

Price:-

Thundering Fortuner is tagged in the price bracket of Rs 19.99 – Rs 20.99 lakhs (ex-showroom New Delhi) and the magnificent Pajero Sport is priced at Rs 24 lakh (Ex-showroom Mumbai may vary). The sports version of the Pajero is expected to hit Indian shores by mid 2012.
