Ford Fiesta VS Fiat Linea VS Honda City – Sedans face off (Expert Review)

Indian auto market is witnessing tremendous rise in each segment especially in the hatchback and mid-size sedan segments. Every auto maker is trying to upgrade their sedans, first it was Fiat Linea and then Honda City which have got the revamped looks. On the other hand, Ford Fiesta never had the problem with its looks or features and thus it continues to be sold the same way it was launched. Let’s do a quick comparison of these sedans on the basis of following factors in order to decide which one has got that ‘extra’ then the other.

Exteriors :-

Upmarket and exotic are the words which best describe the exteriors of new Ford Fiesta. The amusing and astounding sedan shows resemblance with Figo with small front grille. The opulent interiors of Honda City 2012 have better design and styling that caters a premium feel. The instrument cluster of Honda City 2012 is incorporated with thrilling design. Honda City 2012 has extended dash board that can carry most of the day-to-day stuff. Besides, the centre console of the vehicle is better symmetrically amended.

Engine, Specification & Performance : -

The new Fiesta is offered with two engine options; 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. The 1.5-litre TiVCT (Twin independent Variable Cam Timing) petrol engine delivers an impressive power of 108 bhp at 6350 rpm and peak torque of 140 Nm at 5000 rpm. While the diesel engine offers exceptional power of 90 bhp along with maximum torque of 21 kgm. Both the engines are mated with five-speed gearbox.

The fabulous Fiat Linea 2012 is equipped with the same 1.4-litre FIRE petrol and 1.3-litre Multijet diesel with VGT. The petrol motor churns maximum power of 90 PS at 6000 rpm along with ultimate torque of 115 Nm at 4500 rpm while the award winning Multijet diesel mill belts out top power of 93 PS at 4000 rpm and peak torque of 209 Nm at 2000 rpm. Both the engines are mated with 5 speed manual transmission. Overtaking on the road now gets simpler with the sedan crossing 0-100 kmph in mere 11.14 seconds.

Honda City 2012 is packed with a 1.5 liter, 16 valves, 4-cylinder petrol inline and is available in both manual and automatic variants. The 1.5 liter petrol engine of this car produces top power of 118 PS at 6,600 rpm and peak torque of 146 Nm at 4800 rpm. The new City sedan races from 0-100 kmph in mere 13.5 seconds with a top speed of 170 kmph.

Features :-

The new Ford Fiesta feature list comprises of Bluetooth music system, Engine Start/Stop button and Human machine interface (HMI) LCD atop center console to set music, vehicle settings etc. Other features include automatic climate control, multimedia display screen, leather seats, electrically adjustable ORVMs, steering mounted audio controls, music player featuring a keypad to dial numbers, power steering, power windows, remote central locking, voice activated control system, mobile inspired center console, USB/Aux-in connectivity in dash integrated music system and the list continues.

New Fiat Linea 2012 offers Automatic Climate Control, Rear AC Vents, Power Windows with one touch facility, Interior Roof Light with Dimming Effect, Remote Keyless Entry, Rear Defogger with Timer, Night Panel in Front Roof Lights, Electrically adjustable ORVMs & Rear Armrest with Glove Box are some of the features. The latest entrants include Integrated CD/ MP3 & FM Player, Automatic Headlamps, Speed Sensitive Volume Adjuster for Audio Player, Power Windows with Delay Feature, Rear Parcel Shelf, Power Steering and Tilt Adjustable Steering Column.

Honda City 2012 is laden with features like AC, Music System, Power Steering, Power Windows, Central Locking, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist, SRS Airbags, Engine Check Warning, Remote Trunk Opener, Remote Fuel Lid Opener, Engine Immobilizer etc. The sedan is imparted with all new front grille, fresh front & rear bumpers, attractive alloy wheels, power sun-roof and more adorable interiors.

Mileage :-

The fantastic Fiesta gives impressive mileage of 12 kmpl in city and 17 kmpl on highways. The alluring petrol fueled Linea 2012 offers a mileage of 14.6 kmpl while the diesel variant delivers an impressive fuel economy of 20.4 kmpl. The manual transmission variant of face-lifted City returns with mileage of 16.8 kmpl, while its automatic transmission one delivers mileage of 15.6 kmpl.

Price :-

Ford Fiesta is priced in the range of Rs 7.34 lakh – Rs 10.15 lakh. The all new Fiat Linea 2012 is tagged in the price bracket of Rs 6.51 – Rs 9.06 lakh while Honda City 2012 falls in the price range of Rs. 6.99 lakh to Rs. 10.22 lakh. All the prices are ex-showroom approximate.

Verdict :-

We rate Honda City 2012 to be better car for its powerful yet fuel efficient engine, low maintenance cost and excellent ride quality followed by Fiat Linea 2012 and the Ford Fiesta rests at the bottom of the table.
