The all new Renault Duster is powered by a 1.5 litre CRDi diesel engine which is doing duties under Nissan Micra and is linked to six speed manual gearbox. The engine is able to churn maximum power of 110 bhp at 4000 rpm and peak torque of 240 Nm at 1750 rpm whereas the petrol one is powered by a 1598 cc DOHC engine which is able to generate top power of 105 bhp at 5750 rpm and max torque of 148 Nm at 3750 rpm. Both the engines are mated to five speed manual transmission. Diesel Duster accelerates from 0-100 kmph in mere 11.8 seconds with a top speed of 164 kmph.
The all new Mahindra XUV 500 carries the same mHawk140, direct injection diesel engine 5th generation Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) already doing duties under Scorpio’s hood. This powerful engine is capable of belting out maximum power of 140 bhp at 3750 rpm and peak torque of 330 Nm at 1600-2800 rpm. The engine is linked to 6 speed synchromesh manual transmission. The muscular machine sprints from 0 to 100 kmph in mere 13.5 seconds with a top speed of 175 kmph.
Ride & Handling Quality :-
Both the SUVs lack that feel of supple ride; it’s just the question of which one being better than the other. Both of them have heavy clutch and tad gearshifts but its Renault Duster’s riding quality that is superior compared to Mahindra XUV’s. The light weight of Duster does play a vital role in the overall stability and agility of the vehicle. Under the 1500 rpm, the French beau does require continuous throttle to maintain speed in first gear. Mahindra XUV 500 on the other hand, goes further down and is frustrating to drive in city conditions.
