New Hyundai i20 2012 Vs Old Hyundai i20 – What’s the difference? (Expert Review)

The South Korean automaker has introduced the revamped version of its fabulous Hyundai i20 on 28th March, 2012. The styling has been lifted a lot from its predecessor and now the fluidic concept is deeply engraved in the premium hatchback. Contrarily, the previous edition of Hyundai i20 was also an appealing one and was admired by the car enthusiasts of the country. Apart from outfit charisma, both the vehicles are luxurious inside and have the same powerful engine. What are the distinct features and factors that make new Hyundai i20 different from its older version? Let’s check out in this short comparison.

Exteriors:-

Inspired from its big brother i3, the new Hyundai i20 has gone under complete reconstruction with new stylish bumper, redesigned bumpers, fluidic new headlamps and pleasing tail lamps. Neat and sharp lines enhance the appeal of this elegant Hyundai model. Turn indicators on body colored ORVMs, sporty roof spoiler, shining front grill and smartly designed 8-spoke alloys enchant the vehicle with contemporary looks.
Older Hyundai i20 has got wider dimension and looks like a car with more space. The front fascia has longer hood with a dash of Korean designing clearly spotted. The peeled back head lamps blend perfectly with the overall styling of the premium hatchback. With swooping lines and turn indicators on the side mirrors, Hyundai i20 does impresses the car enthusiasts.

Interiors:-

Step in and the gleaming blue LED illumination greets you and rest is handled by the comfy ergonomically placed seats which cater you with the taste of luxury. Hyundai i-Gen i20 is joyfully sculpted with an eye on every detailing and signifies the hard work of the Hyundai engineers. Interior features embrace leather & chrome finish gear knob, Clutch footrest, Coat hook, Luggage hook, etc.

Ecstatic and impressive are the two words which best describe the cabin of older Hyundai i20. The premium hatchback segment car is very spacious and the dual tone beige interiors add glory to the opulent cabin. New blue LED interior illumination, cabin space decorated with silver finish on Centre fascia and AC vents gleam up the car with excitement. The previous edition boasts of comfortable seating arrangement for one and all similar to the new model.

Engine, Specifications & Performance:-

Engines of both the cars are similar.Under the short hood of new Hyundai i20 a 1.2-litre VTVT Kappa engine is installed which belts out 84 PS of maximum power at 5200 rpm and 11.4 kgm of peak torque at 4000 rpm. The engine is mated to 5-speed manual transmission. An automatic variant with four speed auto transmission is also available which has the same engine used earlier that churns max power of 100 Ps at 5500 rpm and 13.9 kgm of peak torque at 4200 rpm. Mated with 6-speed manual transmission, the 1.4 litre diesel engine produces top power of 90 Ps at 4000 rpm and terrific torque of 22.4 kgm at 1750-2750 rpm.

The automatic version covers 0-100 kmph slot in mere 15.4 seconds with a top speed of 170 kmph. The 1.2 litre kappa engine variant sprints from 0-100 kmph in just 15.2 seconds with maximum speed of 154 kmph. The diesel version accelerates form 0-100 kmph in fiery 13.2 seconds with a top speed of 166 kmph.

Features:-

Revamped Hyundai i20 fluidic features comprise of Rear Parking Camera, Fully Automatic Temperature Control, Clean Air-Cluster ionizer for fresh air, Supervision Cluster, Smart Key with Push button feature, Steering Mounted Audio and Bluetooth controls, Tilt & telescopic steering, Multi Information Display, 2-DIN CD/MP3 Audio System with 4 speakers and 2 tweeters, USB, Aux-in and Bluetooth connectivity. Other include 60:40 Split Seats, centre console multipurpose storage box, front door map pockets, passenger side seat back pocket, Tachometer, Dual Trip meter, passenger vanity mirror and many more.

Contrarily, Hyundai i20 boasts of chrome finish inside door locks, passenger vanity mirrors, AC/heating, 60/40 split folding rear seats, tilt and telescopic steering, 2 DIN CD along with an MP3 music system, refrigerated glove box, multi information display and tachometer are kept standard. The top variant is blessed with fully automatic AC, leather wrapped steering wheel and TGS knob, alloy wheels, steering mounted audio control (a first for this segment), foldable key with keyless entry function, height-adjustable driver seat and electrically foldable outside mirrors.

Mileage:-

Fuel efficiency of the predecessor and successor are similar. Hyundai i-Gen i20 automatic delivers an overall mileage of 11kmpl – 15 kmpl while the 1.4 L Kappa engine returns with an overall fuel efficiency of 15-17 kmpl. The diesel i20 offers an impressive mileage of 18 kmpl -23 kmpl.

Price:-

The fluidic Hyundai i20 is tagged in the price bracket of Rs 4.73 lakh – Rs 7.67 lakh whereas the older Hyundai i20 is tagged in the price bracket of Rs 4.58 lakh – Rs 7.86 lakh depending on variants (ex-showroom New Delhi).
