India’s largest passenger car maker is gearing up to launch its sensational Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in end of march or April this year thereby entering a new niche in the Indian subcontinent. The compact SUV is speculated to take Maruti Suzuki to new heights and would be a worry for major SUV players like Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, etc. Another important player in the segment is the Japanese auto major, Toyota with its new Innova. The facelifted Innova have further injected an air of freshness in the MPV and as expected, the sales graph begin to climb again. Engine, Specifications & Performance:-
In Maruti Ertiga, a new K series engine debuts K14 VVT 1.4-litre petrol engine which is capable of generating maximum power of 94 bhp at 6000 rpm along with ultimate torque of 13.2 kgm at 4000 rpm. Available with diesel option as well, Ertiga diesel is powered by 1.3L DDiS Super Turbo engine having the capability of churning out top power of 88 bhp at 4000 rpm and peak torque 20.4 kgm at 1750 rpm. Other specifications have not been known till date.
Impressive Innova steals its massive power from a 2.0 liter VVT-I engine that churns out fantastic force of 132PS at 5600 rpm and peak torque of181Nm at 4000 rpm. On the contrary, 102 PS of peak power at 3600 rpm and top torque of 200Nm at 1400-3400 rpm is shelved out from Innova’s 2.5liter common rail diesel engine. Both the variants are twinned with five speed manual transmission. The petrol enabled Innova cruises from 0-100 kmph in 12.5 seconds along with a top speed of 179 kmph whereas the diesel variant covers the same mark in 17.4 seconds with max speed of 149 kmph.
In the feature list, Maruti Ertiga boasts of a three-spoke, tilt adjustable electric power steering, steering mounted audio controls, twin air-con, USB compatible audio unit, keyless entry and central locking. Besides, it has power windows with auto-down function, Multi-information Display (MID), electrically adjustable ORVMs and several others.
Facelifted Toyota Innova embraces AC, AC vents for 2nd and 3rd row, Tilt Steering Column, Glove box, Tripmeter, Power Door Lock, Tachometer, Keyless Entry, Audio, MID & Bluetooth controls on steering and Speakers. Moreover the top end variant of the MPV comes loaded with Microphone, Amplifier, Rear Camera with Display, Sunvisor, Power Steering, Front Map Lamp (with Overhead Storage Console), Power Windows (with Driver side Auto Down) and Wooden Panel.
The electrifying Ertiga is speculated to deliver 16.02 kmpl for its petrol variant and 20.77 kmpl for the diesel one while Irresistible Innova offers 8.3 kmpl- 12.5 kmpl for the petrol version and 10.2 kmpl – 13.5 kmpl for the diesel one.
Maruti Ertiga is speculated to be tagged over Rs 6 lakh (Ex-showroom approximate) whereas its rival Toyota Innova is priced in the price bracket of Rs. 8.48 lakh to Rs. 12.80 lakh (Ex-showroom New Delhi).
