New Hyundai i20 VS Hyundai i10 – Friendly war (Expert Review)

South Korean car maker is enjoying splendid Indian journey with its Santro Xing, i10 and i20. Terrific styling of its cars coupled with host of exciting features and powerful engines. Lately, the new Hyundai i10 and Hyundai i20 have been unleashed in the country which has pushed the sales for the respective models. Despite their segment differences, car buyers are dicey when given the choice among i10 and i20. To ease the pressure somewhat, we have brought a comparison of these new i20 vs i10 on the basis of exteriors, interiors, engine, features, mileage and price.

Exteriors:-

The all new Hyundai i20 has gone under complete reconstruction with new stylish bumper, redesigned bumpers, fluidic new headlamps and pleasing tail lamps. Neat and sharp lines enhance the appeal of this elegant Hyundai model. Turn indicators on body colored ORVMs, sporty roof spoiler, shining front grill and smartly designed 8-spoke alloys enchant the vehicle with contemporary looks.

The Hyundai i10 also showcases the fluidic concept. The front end comes with clear stretched headlamps and chrome finished front grille which embraces Hyundai’s logo placed on it. The smart and sharp aerodynamic design lures small car enthusiasts. The full wheel covers and the use of black moulded plastic in front and rear portion feels soothing to eyes. The style of this Hyundai i10 is refreshing when compared to other cars in its category.

Interiors:-

Step in i20 and the gleaming blue LED illumination greets you and rest is handled by the comfy ergonomically placed seats which cater you with the taste of luxury. Hyundai i-Gen i20 is joyfully sculpted with an eye on every detailing and signifies the hard work of the Hyundai engineers. Interior features embrace leather & chrome finish gear knob, Clutch footrest, Coat hook, Luggage hook, etc.

The sporty small car Hyundai i10 is bestowed with comfortable and exhilarating features. The dual tone dashboard along with the use of dark aluminium inserts is an eye-catcher as soon as you step in. The five seater premium hatchback has not only got plush interiors but also provides luxurious feel. The cool blue colour dominates the instrument cluster which is pleasing to eyes. The all new i10 may look cramped from outside but the car carries enough space to occupy mid sized adults.

Engine, Specification & Performance:-

Under the short hood of new Hyundai i20 a 1.2-litre VTVT Kappa engine is installed which belts out 84 PS of maximum power at 5200 rpm and 11.4 kgm of peak torque at 4000 rpm. The engine is mated to 5-speed manual transmission. An automatic variant with four speed auto transmission is also available in i20. Mated with 6-speed manual transmission, the 1.4 litre diesel engine produces top power of 90 Ps at 4000 rpm and terrific torque of 22.4 kgm at 1750-2750 rpm.

The 1.2 litre kappa engine variant sprints from 0-100 kmph in just 15.2 seconds with maximum speed of 154 kmph.

The diesel version accelerates form 0-100 kmph in fiery 13.2 seconds with a top speed of 166 kmph.

The all new Hyundai i10 comes with 1.1-litre Inline-four Intelligent Responsive Drive Engine (iRDE) and 1.2L 16V DOHC Kappa engine. The former petrol engine is capable of producing maximum power of 66 bhp at 5500 rpm and peak torque of 99 Nm at 2800 rpm.

While the Kappa engine offers an impressive power of 79 bhp at 5200 rpm and maximum torque of 114 Nm at 4000 rpm. The 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive comes standard in all variants. The Kappa engine is available with 4-speed automatic transmission. The all new Hyundai i10 is a superb performer with its latest Kappa engine. The hatchback has a top speed of 150 kmph.

Renovated Hyundai i20 fluidic features comprise of Rear Parking Camera, Fully Automatic Temperature Control, Clean Air-Cluster ionizer for fresh air, Supervision Cluster, Smart Key with Push button feature, Steering Mounted Audio and Bluetooth controls, Tilt & telescopic steering, Multi Information Display, 2-DIN CD/MP3 Audio System with 4 speakers and 2 tweeters, USB, Aux-in and Bluetooth connectivity. Other include 60:40 Split Seats, centre console multipurpose storage box, front door map pockets, passenger side seat back pocket, Tachometer, Dual Trip meter, passenger vanity mirror and many more.

One of country’s bestseller, Hyundai i10 is equipped with loads of comfort and convenient features. These include AC, power windows, remote central locking, rear wiper, rear defogger, centre dash meters in vibrant blue illumination, and adjustable steering wheel. A 12V power outlet as also newly designed stereo system with Bluetooth and USB, Ipod connectivity. Also, fully integrated 2-Din audio system with CD player/ MP3 compatibility, 60:40 seat split, electronic odometer, tripmeter, low fuel warning lamp and power steering with i-shift gear shift add to the list of convenient features of Hyundai i10.

Mileage:-

Hyundai i-Gen i20 1.4 L Kappa engine returns with an overall fuel efficiency of 15-17 and 18 kmpl -23 kmpl with its diesel engine.

The all new Hyundai i10 gives impressive numbers of 12-15.4 kmpl in city and 16-19 kmpl on highways.

Price:-

The fluidic Hyundai i20 is tagged in the price bracket of Rs 4.73 lakh – Rs 7.67 lakh while the i10 is tagged in the price bracket of Rs 3.54 lakh – Rs 5.95 lakh (Ex-showroom New Delhi).
