Ford Classic VS Honda City – Classic has a point to prove (Expert Review)

Ford has lately given a facelift and a name slit to their outgoing Ford Fiesta Classic which is now known as Ford Classic. Dropping its name and gaining some features are the highlights of the new Ford Classic. On the other hand, we have marathon sedan from Honda, the City which has achieved unmatched success in the Indian auto market right from the time of its inception. Let’s compare them on the basis of following factors:-

Exteriors :-

Admired for its sober and elegant looks, new changes in Ford Classic have just made it better. Crystal barrel headlamps with chrome surrounding, body colored side mirrors, bumpers and tail gate handle present the Classic with the pure classic looks. Radiator grill with chrome linings and smart fog lamps enhance the style statement of the vehicle. On top of it new aggressive styled alloy wheels add a dash of sportiness to Ford’s Classic.

The all new Honda City 2012 appears more stunning this time with dynamic looks. The extended headlamps of the sedan are able to be more appealing than before. Injected with minor cosmetic touches, the rear end of Honda City looks awesome. The front grille of new Honda City 2012 looks much better than its previous models. Engine, Specifications & Performance :-

Ford Classic is available in both petrol & diesel variants. The 1.6L 4-Cylinder 16 Valve DOHC Duratec petrol engine belts out top power of 101 bhp at 6500 rpm and peak torque of 146 Nm at 3400 rpm whereas the 1.4L 4-Cylinder 8 Valve SOHC Duratorq diesel motor churns out max power of 68 PS at 4000 rpm and generates max torque of 160 Nm at 2000 rpm. Both the engines are mated to five speed manual transmission. The new Ford Classic petrol sprints from 0-100 kmph in mere 11.43 seconds with a top speed of 170 kmph and the diesel Classic covers the same slot in 12.8 seconds with speed limit of 165 kmph.

Honda City 2012 is packed with a 1.5 liter, 16 valves, 4-cylinder petrol inline and is available in both manual and automatic variants. The 1.5 liter petrol engine of this car produces top power of 118 PS at 6,600 rpm and peak torque of 146 Nm at 4800 rpm. The new City sedan races from 0-100 kmph in mere 13.5 seconds with a top speed of 170 kmph.

Honda City 2012 is laden with features like AC, Music System, Power Steering, Power Windows, Central Locking, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist, SRS Airbags, Engine Check Warning, Remote Trunk Opener, Remote Fuel Lid Opener, Engine Immobilizer etc. The sedan is imparted with all new front grille, fresh front & rear bumpers, attractive alloy wheels, power sun-roof and more adorable interiors.

Mileage :-

Fabulous Ford Classic petrol delivers fuel efficiency of 21.27 kmpl while the diesel motor returns with the mileage figures of 32.38 kmpl as claimed by the company.

The manual transmission variant of face-lifted City returns with mileage of 16.8 kmpl, while its automatic transmission one delivers mileage of 15.6 kmpl.

Price :-

Ford Classic is shelved in the price slot of Rs 5.53 lakh – Rs 7.90 lakh while Honda City 2012 falls in the price range of Rs. 6.99 to Rs. 10.22 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi).

Verdict :-

We rate Honda City to be a better sedan thanks to its refined engine, looks and top notch interiors. However with the edge of having diesel trim, Ford Classic is also not behind and its competitive pricing further boosts its chances.
