Hybrid & Electric Cars are to Set New Trends in Auto Sector

Green is the latest In Thing, and even at the Auto Expo 2012 going on in New Delhi, it has become the In Thing in the real sense with the major automakers like Maruti Suzuki, Nissan, Hyundai Motor and Mahindra & Mahindra exhibiting electric and hybrid vehicles at the show which are going to be launched in the near future.

The automakers are aware that landing up these cars into the market would be a real tough job as they neither have any proper policy incentives nor any infrastructure support but this isn’t bothering their eager enthusiasm.

Currently, only Mahindra & Mahindra’s fully electric car Reva has a proper launch plans. It is going to be the first and only one in the electric car segment that would be hitting the Indian market. The company unveiled, its two seated version in the Auto Expo 2012 which brought curiosity among the attendees of the show, it has plans for bringing out the four seated commercial version sometimes before Diwali this year.

Sources believe that the company is making efforts to have it priced in between Rs. 4 to 5 lakh and make it a better commercial success.

Another company with hybrid vehicle is Toyota Kirloskar Motors which has launched their all new Prius at the 11th Auto Expo and have priced it in between Rs. 27, 38, 500 to Rs. 29, 40, 500 (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Curiosity for the hybrid and electric cars is picking up at a real high level with companies like Maruti Suzuki that were known for their expertise in cars with conventional fuel driven engines are looking forward to come up with commercial manufacturing of hybrid vehicle with the hybrid version of Swift.

In fact, there are reports suggesting that Maruti has already begun with the road testing of their hybrid car, “Swift – Range Extender”, an electric motor run car.
