Your cost of owning a car starts from the moment you get a car home. It includes everything like purchase price, the taxes you pay, the fuel you use, the insurance you get done, the other kind of registrations, and the biggest part goes in the regular repair and maintenance that includes replacement of the parts, tires, oil changes, all other repairs, etc. And as your car turns older, your expenses increase as its parts tend to get damaged easily. You need you take care of your car more as it becomes more delicate with time.

I think older cars don't spend up more in maintenance compared to the new ones. If your car is too old to fetch you a good resale, it is out of warranty, it is kind of junk for the used car market, you don't really have to take a whole lot of care of your car and can compromise over it maintenance, again there isn't any need to use original spare parts and all.
